About Me

Hello. Howdy. Namaste!

My name is Leslie Marie Edwards, MS, RDN, LD, CSOWM, CPT, RYT.

Adjunct Professor, Registered Dietitian, Fitness Trainer, and Yogi.

I am originally from Tucson, Arizona and continue to miss the dry heat since moving to Ohio in 2015. I attended The Ohio State University for my undergraduate degree and fell in love learning about the human body. After graduating, I pursued my master’s degree at Miami University and completed my dietetic internship to become a registered dietitian (RD).

For 2.5 years, I worked at an outpatient bariatric surgery and physician-supervised weight loss center. It included a variety of 1:1 and group appointments speaking on different topics related to healthy eating and weight management strategies. This position gave me additional experience and tools important for providing inclusive, patient-centered care. As a specialist in weight management, I understand that BMI and even the scale are imperfect tools so we will work together on if that’s even needed.

I chose dietetics because what we eat has an impact on our health; this looks different for everyone, and every culture, and is influenced by many factors. No matter your background, I will help you make changes that fit within your values and if I am not the best person for you, I can refer you to someone that is!

Now when less than 3% of RDs are Black, that means the information out there may not take into account cultural values and differences. It’s also especially important to acknowledge how centuries of racism have impacted where one lives, learns, works, and accesses different services including healthcare. This is where I hope to fill the gap.

In addition to nutrition, I love anything that involves moving the body. My favorite activity is a walk outside with music, but I also enjoy dancing, cycling, boxing, yoga, weight lifting, basketball, tennis, etc. You name it, I’ll do it, and will try to beat you too! I grew up participating in track and field and still hate running til this day, but that’s where I grew the appreciation for moving and properly fueling bodies for activity. I currently teach yoga and indoor cycle at a local fitness club but hope to start teaching more and taking some classes myself like Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

It is my hope and vision that every person has the knowledge to make healthy life decisions that will help support their goals. Whether it’s to lose weight or simply improve strength or flexibility, I’ve got you here at Cultural Wellness!
